Dr. Demarchi was born and raised in Kamloops and graduated from the optometry program at the University of Waterloo in 1969. He then opened his first clinic with Dr. Takahashi, and after 19 years of working together, he started his practice in 1988. A year later, in 1989, Dr. Giovanni Cinel joined him in practice, and in 1998, they moved to their current location and changed the name to Summit Eyecare Centre.

He loves the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and he also enjoys spending time with his wife, Terry, their 2 children, and 4 grandchildren.

Dr Leonard Demarchi retired in the fall of 2021 after 52 years of practicing optometry in Kamloops. His energy, smile, and stories will be missed at the office. We will continue to work hard to follow the example he has set for us in providing excellent eye care to our community.

Dr. Cinel was born and raised in Kamloops. He attended the University of Waterloo, receiving both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees before returning home to begin practice in 1989. He feels very fortunate to be caring for three generations of some families!

A member of the Third World Eyecare Society, Dr. Cinel has participated in five eye-care missions to Guatemala, Grenada, and the Philippines.

Dr. Cinel enjoys singing, kayaking, nordic skiing, and travelling with his wife, Cynthia.

Dr. Noble was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario.  He moved west to Kamloops following his graduation, with honours, from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 1998, and hasn’t looked back. 

He met his wife, a Kamloopsian, shortly after arriving, and they, along with their two children, continue to enjoy everything the area has to offer. Dr. Noble is an avid golfer and fitness enth, and when he is not in the office, you will most likely find him in the gym or out on the links.  

Dr. Noble has been a co-owner of Summit Eyecare Centre since 2004 and has witnessed the practice grow and evolve significantly. While Kamloops and the practice continue to expand, Dr. Noble’s main focus has always been primary eyecare, and providing compassionate and comprehensive care for his patients.  He is proud to serve his community and looks forward to continuing to do so for some time.  

Dr. Weston grew up in London, Ontario. His parents, a physician and a nurse, had 5 children, Josh being the fourth.

Dr. Weston studied at the University of Waterloo, earning a Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Optometry degree. During that time, he had the privilege of interning in London, Ontario, at the Ivey Eye Clinic, the private ophthalmology practice of Dr. Colin Mailer, and a private optometry practice in Christchurch, New Zealand. In New Zealand, he gained valuable clinical experience with binocular vision anomalies and vision therapy, dealing mainly with the pediatric population. While in London, he was involved with cases of glaucoma, retinal disease, strabismus, lid anomalies, cataracts, refractive and corneal surgeries.

Dr. Weston and his wife moved to Kamloops in 2004 and have lived and worked in the community since then. They have two children who also light up their lives. In his free time, Dr. Weston enjoys downhill skiing, mountain biking, and playing soccer.

Dr. Derksen took over a single optometrist practice in Williams Lake in 1996 and grew it to a 5-optometrist practice before moving on to Kamloops in 2015.

Dr. Derksen was elected as a member of the B.C. Association of Optometrists board in 2011 and then as the board’s secretary-treasurer in 2013.

I feel grateful to be in a career that allows me to make a positive difference in people’s lives. I see our role as integral to improving people’s lives by helping them achieve their best possible vision and their best possible eye health. Clear, comfortable vision is such a gift. I am fortunate to be able to do that in a setting where our team treats our patients with respect and compassion and with a goal of helping each and every patient. 

When not working, Dr. Derksen enjoys golfing, biking, skiing, and playing hockey and any other sport his old carcass will allow him to play. He especially loves spending time with his family and his new granddaughter. 

Dr. Lam lived in beautiful British Columbia most of her life and grew up in Richmond. She attended the University of British Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology, then continued her studies at the University of Waterloo, where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2009. She decided to pursue extra training after her doctorate. She was accepted to a hospital-based residency program in ocular disease with the Veterans Affairs Medical Facilities in Ohio, USA. While completing her residency program, Dr. Lam was an adjunct faculty member and a clinical instructor at the Ohio State University College of Optometry.

Her passion for ocular disease and management led her to practice rural optometry in Williams Lake, BC, for nine years before moving to Kamloops. While in the Cariboo, she provided optometry services at travelling clinics in communities without access to eye care. These locations included Tatla Lake, Anahim Lake, and Bella Coola. She also performed out-of-clinic eye exams on the residents at a local retirement home in Williams Lake.

Dr. Lam wanted to be in a profession where she could serve both her local community and those in need globally. She had joined medical and eye care mission trips to Honduras, Peru, and Thailand.

Dr. Lam was on the Board of Directors with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the pianist for the Cariboo Gold Dance Band, and the president of the Cariboo Festival Society while she lived in Williams Lake. She is looking forward to getting involved with the Kamloops community as well.

Dr. Lam loves to travel and enjoys the outdoors, including hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding. But you will also find her indoors, as she loves to craft, quilt, and play her piano. Dr. Lam moved to Kamloops with her life companion, Dan (born and raised in Kamloops), and their darling cats, Jax and Archibald.

Dr. Soo Nam (she/her) graduated from McMaster University, Honours Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude in 2012, the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science, Doctor of Optometry, Dean’s Honours List in 2016.  She did her externships in Baltimore, MD, Burlington, ON, and Ottawa, ON.

She has a particular interest in primary care, ocular disease, myopia control, and contact lenses.  She finds the most fulfillment when she can make someone’s day better.

She is friendly, cheerful, and outgoing.  She enjoys gardening, card making, playing musical instruments, watching stand-up comedy, playing pickleball ball and playing ping pong.  You can often find her at the TCC table tennis court, usually the loudest of all the players on the court, in a good way, of course.

Dr. Cairns was born and raised in Kamloops, graduating from South Kamloops Secondary. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at TRU before moving to Oregon, earning his Doctor of Optometry degree at Pacific University, which he received in 2024. In his final year of school, Dr. Cairns had many great opportunities during his four internships across the United States and Canada, and was able to obtain lots of hands-on experience working with scleral contact lenses. 

Following his schooling, he spent a year practicing in Quesnel, where he managed a variety of ocular diseases as well as providing comprehensive eye exams. Now back in Kamloops, he looks forward to sharing his knowledge on new advancements in optometry with his patients.

In his free time, Dr. Cairns enjoys getting outside to play both soccer and softball, and spending time with friends and family. He has recently started to get into the world of birdwatching and has been enjoying the option for a more leisurely pace that it provides.
